E&Ms was a true North-east institution and an integral part of the lives of those who worked for the business with many employees staying for decades, with several surpassing 50 years of service, and customers were as fiercely loyal to the popular store.
The store remained in the Esslemont family until 1997 before being sold to department store chain Owen Owen in 2005, and finally, after 134 years of trading, Esslemont & MacIntosh closed.
Taking inspiration from our past as one of the finest department stores in Aberdeen, The Esslemont Bar & Restaurant tips its hat to our historic character in our interiors to create a stylish setting perfect for good times in the heart of our city centre.
